“I hate it when you pull the noble speech routine.” Goldman replied.
“I know, but it works.” Claire replied with a grin. “Let’s prove everyone wrong and just fix this.”
“Alright. I’ll go talk to the people up at the hospital, but if they are expecting to kill people, I’m not sure how I’m going to change their minds.” He said.
“From what I’ve been told, you and I are supposed to square off to decide the fate of the world. If that’s their logic, they will fall in line under you.” She replied.
“Wait, I’m supposed to lead them against you?” He asked.
“That’s what I’ve been told by several sources, but I think as long as we can keep our wits, we may be able to stop all this. Maybe even figure out how to bring everyone back.” Claire said.
“We don’t even know where they went, Haskel. How are we supposed to bring them back?”
“We’ll find a way. It’s the biggest case we’ve ever taken on together, but I know we can do it.” She said as Goldman came around the bar leaving his mug mostly full.
“It sounds like you’re expecting a miracle.” He replied.
“I’m only expecting what I know we can accomplish, which is figuring this out.” She said.
“Alright then, let’s get moving.” He said motioning for the door.
“I can’t go with you to the hospital.” She said, “You’ll have to go alone. At least for now our cell phones should work. So send me a text when you know what’s going on over there.”
Goldman nodded and walked out of the bar. Justin was standing out there waiting for Claire when she followed him out. He looked as though he was totally at peace as he looked through the window of the next shop.
“Have you been there long?” Claire asked.
“You know this guy?” Goldman asked.
“This is Justin. Like us he is special. He can see the future.” Claire replied.
“I’d say it’s a pleasure to meet you, but only time will tell.” Justin replied with a smile and a nod.
“I’m not sure I like you.” Goldman said.
“I’m not sure you’re entirely sober, so that’s fair.” Justin replied turning back to the window, “As for your question, Claire, I’ve been here only a moment.”
“Okay.” Claire replied, turning to Goldman, “So I’ll hear from you soon?”
“Yup.” Goldman said eyeing Justin suspiciously, “Keep an eye on that guy. He freaks me out a bit.”
“I’ll do what I can with the people around me to get them in line and stop them from starting a war with the group at the hospital.” Claire replied. “Good luck.
“Thanks, I might need it.” Goldman replied as he turned toward the West End and walked away.
“Are you ready to go back?” Justin asked as soon as Goldman was far enough away that he would hear.
“As ready as I will be.” Claire said. “How much do you know?”
