“Well, I’m sorry to hear that you got a flat on the way in today, and that you have earned yourself a stalker over the weekend. It’s only Monday, I’m sure the rest of the week will be better.” Gerry said.
“I can only hope.” Jeff said as he opened the door.
He shut the door and shuffled to his office around the corner. His body felt like dead weight, he assumed it was due to lack of sleep over the weekend.
If I wasn’t a manager, I could at least turn my phone off to get some sleep. He thought. Maybe, if I can get ahead far enough on my work this morning, I’ll be able to sleep a little in my office.
“Jeff!” He heard called from behind him. The feminine voice was pleasant to his ears, and when he turned around, the sight was equally appealing.
Cindy, the mailroom manager, and his long time crush, was speed-walking down the hall with a package in her hands. Her business casual black slacks and thick beige sweater complete with a light-blue collar peeking out around her neck. Her amber eyes, dark hair, combined with a smile that never left her face. She was perfect in his eyes.
“Good morning, Cindy.” Jeff said, unable to stop himself from producing a smile.
“Holy cannoli, you look tired, Jeff. Are you sick or something?” She asked.
“No, just didn’t get much sleep over the weekend.” He said, and as if on cue his phone started vibrating in his pocket again. A surge of anger flashed through him as he pulled the device from his pocket to find that, once again UNKNOWN CALLER was staring back at him. He pushed it back into his pocket and looked back up at her. “What’s up? Do you need help with something?”
“No, this package came for you on Saturday. I just wanted an excuse to see you today.” She said practically beaming at him. “I can’t wait for our lunch date tomorrow. I have a surprise for you!”
“A surprise? I can hardly wait!” He replied, genuinely excited by the thought of their lunch date.
“Too bad! You’ll have to!” She said handing him the package. “I’ll talk to you later. Duty calls and all that.”
